It's happening! The air is growing more humid, the days are growing longer, and the birds are starting to really sing (just outside of my window every morning at 3 am...). Even though you may still be feeling those last days of winter (it's actually snowing in KC as I write this), we in the northern hemisphere can count on spring days just ahead.
Soon we'll start to head out for a spring vacation or see pictures of our friends on their breaks. Patios will be open and it will be a cinch to keep yourself occupied outside.
It all sounds so great, right?! It is but this time of year certainly does come with its own set of irritations. Lethargy, congestion, and fluid stagnation are all potential annoyances of this time of year. Even though it's less "snuggle season" than it was a month ago, you may notice more challenges to get motivated in the mornings. All of the blooms that are about to pop might cause some allergic reactions like sinus and respiratory congestion.
These are all indications of an increase of the earth and water elements in your body. In Ayurveda, the spring season is called Kapha and is ruled by these two elements. The earth element can make you feel heavy and sleepy while the water element can make you feel stagnant and full of fluid (hello, sinus congestion).
The really good news? Ayurveda breaks things down in these simple terms so that we can each learn to navigate our days and design a life that FEELS GOOD from the inside out.
